Hurricane Harvey was a catastrophic event that caused mass flooding in southeast Texas. Hurricane Harvey made landfall near Rockport Texas as a Category 4 Hurricane with wind speeds near 130 miles per hour. The hurricane lasted from August 24 to September 1 starting from Rockport Texas and eventually dissipating in Louisiana. As Hurricane Harvey made its way through the country it dropped 40-52 inches of rainfall in both Southwest Texas and Southwest Louisiana. Hurricane Harvey was a record-breaking hurricane that shattered all-time U.S. tropical cyclone rain records. This record-breaking rainfall caused flash flooding in Arkansas, Kentucky, and Tennessee from August 31st to September 1st. The overflow of water displaced many residents of the area that were affected and were forced to evacuate and leave their homes. The resulting floods submerged hundreds of thousands of homes, displaced more than 30,000 people, and prompted more than 17,000 rescues. The cost of the damages that have been done by Hurricane Harvey are in the billions and will take years to fully repair. The fatality rate according to recent reports has raised to at least 60 from causes such as fires or drowning.

To support those that were affected by Hurricane Harvey it would be best to donate money to the American Red Cross. The American Red Cross aims to help the residents that were affected by Hurricane Harvey and households that are in need of emergency assistance, households that were displaced by Hurricane Harvey.
