A New Generation of Z

Zachery-Tyler Munoz, Writer

Nissan, one of the known popular Japanese automotive companies, announced that they’re making another new generation to one of their sports cars, which is the Z. In 2009, the Nissan 370Z was released, which is a 6th gen sports car and was the last year of the Z cars. Now over a decade, the Japanese Sport-car is making a comeback. From Motor Trend, it stated that Nissan swore that the Z is a part of their DNA. In other words the Z’s are a symbol to an old name before it changed to Nissan. The name before was called Datsun, but it changed since it sounds like a Japanese phrase that means “to lose money.” The second syllable, sun means lose and it had a red sun in the logo which brought up WWII. But the reason for bringing the Z back is that since Toyota was bringing out an old classic, the Toyota Supra, or that Chevy had decided to bring out a mid-engine Corvette, Nissan decided that it was time to bring it back. Meet the Nissan 400Z.

The 400Z’s design represents the 1970s Datsun 240 Fairlady Z which was the first and original Z created by Datsun, before it became Nissan. The design of the body is a homage to the 240Z but with modern styling making it more aggressive and dynamic. The car is a two seater with a sleek hatch or rear and a long front end plus a square front grill like the 240Z without its front bumper, while giving off a small hint of Aston Martin. The engine is a 3.7L twin turbo V6, putting out 400 horsepower with the option of a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed automatic transmission.  The pricing on it would probably be around $40,000 to $50,000, but it’ll be a real competition with today’s newer models.

To make the 400Z there are some parts that are required and are shared with other car companies like the Infiniti Q60 red sport. The Nissan 400z embodies a retro futuristic style that brings back the Datsun 240 Fairlady Z, recreated in a modernized style. It’s an interesting touch. The Nissan Z’s have really come a long way. If you want something sporty, but also be retro and modern, the Nissan 400z is the best of both worlds.
