Have you ever wondered what life would be like if you were an animal? The 2020 anime movie, A Whisker Away, portrays the life of a young, bright, and energetic high school girl, Miyo Sasaki. Miyo, who is also known as Muge, is in love with her classmate Kento Hinode. She tries very hard to get his attention on several occasions, however he takes no notice. Then suddenly through a series of unprecedented events, she found the only way she could get close to him was by transforming into a cat. Muge is very strong-willed but can also feel very weak when it comes to her feelings. She ends up living a double life. One is that of a normal high school student, and the second life is that of a stray cat. As a cat, she is able to get very close to Hinode. As the movie progresses she starts to ask herself one question: ”Is it okay for her to keep on living this double life?”

The storyline is very interesting because you get to see two entirely different perspectives of the same events. The main message of this movie is that people can often hide their true selves behind a mask, and you just have to keep trying and push through their walls and find that true person inside.

You can’t read minds, but what you can do is try to hear other people out. The meaning of love is to try and understand each other and there will be hardships but it’s a matter of understanding and hearing out different perspectives. 

A Whisker Away is all about wanting to hear and see what other people think. This movie shows that Muge, having seen such a different side of Hinode, would be willing to do anything to help and protect him. I’d give this movie a 4/5. The story is interesting and very emotional. This movie has potential to bring tears to your eyes as you are taken on a journey through the lives of these characters.
