The Poly Bowl

February 5, 2019

Team Makai won the third annual Polynesian Bowl by a score of 27-7 at Aloha Stadium. The bowl game featured 100 of the best high school football players in the country ranging from many different Polynesian descents. It just so happened though, that Hawaiʻi boys made arguably the most significant and impressive plays of the night. Defensive backs, Kaulana Makaula and Marist Liufau, both had interceptions while Punahou wide receiver Tamatoa Falatea got the first score of the game on a catch and ran down the sideline.

Puka Nacua, who is in the Team Makai, earned the Offensive MVP Award. He is a senior at Bingham High School in Utah. He made a spectacular touchdown catch in the corner of the end zone during the match. The Defensive MVP Award was awarded to Daniel Heimuli of Team Mauka. He is a senior at Menlo-Atherton. Daniel was in the Makai backfield all night long.

Saint Louis School had three senior players participating in the Polynesian Bowl. Faatui Tuitele, Gino Quinones, and Arasi Mose all started in the game. When we asked Faatui about the experience of Polynesian Bowl, he said, “It was a great experience to play in such a prestigious bowl game. God is just so great, and I praise him for the opportunities that he has blessed me with in my life.”
