Barrett Smith, Feature writer

The featured teacher for December 2017 is Mr. Dennis Almadova. He is currently teaching religion to high school students, as well as being the advisor for the senior division. Mr. Almadova has been a beloved teacher here at Saint Louis for over 20 years and lives the life of a true Saint Louis man, even though he did not graduate from the slopes of Kalaepohaku.

Mr. Almadova graduated from Hawaii mission academy in 1971, and went on to attend Leeward community college, and finished his degree in education at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. It seems that he’s never left the brotherhood though. He tries to keep up with Saint Louis men who have graduated in years past, and recently travelled to the mainland to see Marcus Mariota play in the NFL.

Being connected to his faith is very important to him as well.  He is quite proud to say that he completed the pilgrimage of  Camino de Santiago, the way of Saint James in Spain. This religious journey is a retreat from the real world, and through this journey your faith is strengthened with God. Closer to home he’s often served as a LIFE moderator for our Campus Ministry program.

“I truly believe we build character. We build character, both mentally and spiritually. The result is our Brotherhood”

— Mr. Almodova

Family is very important to him. He comes from a relatively large family here in Kaimuki. He has two adult children, one son one daughter, as well as a young grandson. He really likes spending time with his family as much as possible, as well as hiking and being outdoors. Mr. Almodova hopes for all Saint Louis graduates to send their sons to Saint Louis.
