The honor of teacher of the month for February 2018 is awarded to Mr. Raymond Abregano. Mr. Abregano has been inspiring minds here at Kalaepohaku for over 35 years. His love for teaching began at Campbell High School. After he graduated in 1967, he then studied Sociology at Chaminade University. A year after graduating from Chaminade as a novitiate he became a Brother. It was always his dream to take his passion for education to Saint Louis and become part of the brotherhood.

Unfortunately, there were no job openings at Saint Louis after earning his degree. He then found a job teaching at Saint Anthony High School on Maui in 1972. After a few years of teaching, Mr. Abregano decided to devote his time to helping at-risk juveniles for a year. He then returned to Saint Anthony for a few more years before accepting a job opening at Saint Louis in 1983.

At Saint Louis, Mr. Abregano continues to teach English to high schoolers. He devoted his teachings to English because he feels that in language classes, you can continue to learn something new everyday. Mr. Abregano believes in the Saint Louis tradition of a single-gendered school with a Catholic Marianist foundation. Still, after 35 years, Mr. Abregano cherishes the bond he shares with the students. He believes the students deserve better facilities in order to be more efficient students. Mr. Abregano expects the model Saint Louis man to be, “someone who betters themselves every day in all aspects of life.” The advice Mr. Abrigano would give to all graduating seniors, would be to have no regrets in life, and to take risks.

“is someone who betters themselves every day in all aspects of life.”
