Ballistic Missile Reaction

Ballistic+Missile+Reaction

On January 13th, a ballistic missile warning was issued at 8:08 a.m. The message reported an Emergency Alert: BALLISTIC MISSILE THREAT INBOUND TO HAWAII. SEEK IMMEDIATE SHELTER. THIS IS NOT A DRILL. This caused havoc through the islands of Hawaii. It also caused many people to seek shelter and even going to the extreme by hiding in the sewers. People went into shock by assuming their fates and saying goodbye to their loved ones. This warning was then debunked when someone called the Department of Defense and confirmed the warning was a false alarm. The false alarm was sent out at 8:45 a.m, sparking outrage amongst the state. The Department of Defense immediately issued an apology speaking out to the public.

This mishap caused outrage not just through the state of Hawaii, but throughout the country as well. Many families worried about their loved ones located in different parts of the country. This was one of the biggest mistakes of the New Year. I personally didn’t worry about the missile. We have an anti-missile system in Kauai that can eliminate multiple missiles in its proximity. Others disagreed, going ballistic and to the extreme doing anything possible to survive if the missile threat was true. Thomas Jiang shared his point of view, “I didn’t care about the missile if it hit, I just went straight back to bed. This could also be a sign for everyone, having a close glimpse of death and for us to change our bad ways.” Majority of people reacted by panicking and exaggerating things. Everyone has their own reaction to the situation, but the Department of Defense needs to be more responsible with their public service announcements. This alert was also issued to Japan, so there must’ve been a glitch or a hack in the system. At least this alert was false and everyone is still here today.
