On the 13th of February Saint Louis School had their own blood drive held by the Blood Bank of Hawaii. It started at 7am in the morning until the end of school; 2:30pm. The students sponsoring the drive were the JROTC cadets. Command Sergeant Major Ordain Lulu was the head cadet tasked with getting students and teachers to sign up. In fact, I was one of the people that donated that day. Itʻs an awesome experience that everyone should try at least once. At the end of the drive there were forty-five people that gave blood. Every person gives about one pint of blood and the average adult has around ten pints of blood. By donating a pint of blood you can save three lives.

The Blood Bank of Hawaii says you should follow these steps before donating.

  • Drink 8-10 glasses of water
  • Get adequate rest
  • Eat a hearty meal
  • Include iron-rich foods in your diet
  • Know the countries where youʻve traveled and when you visited them
  • Know your medical conditions. Additionally, know the medications and amounts you’re taking

The Blood Bank of Hawaii says twenty-four hours after donating you should follow these steps:

  • Drink more fluids than normal and eat well
  • Refrain from consuming alcohol
  • Refrain from heavy lifting and strenuous exercise
