On April 4th, 1968 America lost hero named Martin Luther King Jr., when he was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee at the Lorraine hotel. Martin Luther King meant a great deal to not only the African American community, but the whole world. He was willing to stand up for all people of color, giving them a voice they never had. He called for equal rights for all people, breaking down barriers inspiring people across the world to call for a change. He was a role model to millions across the world, showing people how to peacefully protest. A perfect example of was in 1963 the march on Washington for jobs and freedom where he gave his famous “I have a dream” speech (www.history.com.)

50 years after his death many people commemorate his life through actions in their own life. One great example is the establishment of the Nation Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, Tennessee. The National Civil Rights Museum exhibits the history of the civil rights movement in the United States over the last 3 centuries. The National Civil Rights Museum posted an MLK50 commemoration from April 2nd to the fourth with a common theme of “where do we go from here” (civil rights museum.org.) Doctor Martin Luther King Jr continues to inspire many people around the world with his words of wisdom. “The time is always right to do what is right.” He used famous quotes like this one to change the world forever.
