In the 2019 College Football National Championship, the Clemson Tigers faced off against the Alabama Roll Tide. This is their fourth meeting in the championship between these two powerhouses. The Crimson Tide were led by Heisman Trophy runner-up quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, the hero of last season’s national title win over Georgia. While the Tigers were led by a true freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

The first half was a bad start to Alabama’s defense. Clemson scored 31 points, that tied for the most the Tide had allowed in the first half of any game under Nick Saban. This was the worst performance ever seen by Alabama’s defense.  Clemson running back Travis Etienne accounted for three touchdowns in the first two quarters alone, one on a shovel pass from Trevor Lawrence. On the other side of the ball for Alabama, Tua Tagovailoa threw a pair of interceptions in the first half, one returned for a touchdown for the game’s opening score. Alabama also missed an extra-point try in the first half.

The second half was no different. Clemson kept marching the ball downfield while the Alabama offense couldn’t get anything going. Alabama rolled the dice on a fake field goal in the third quarter but failed. On the ensuing drive, Lawrence found wide receiver Justyn Ross for a long touchdown to push Clemson’s lead to 37-16. The final score was 44-16. Clemson rolled over the mighty Alabama Crimson Tide. Nobody would have ever thought Alabama would be defeated by such a deficit.
