Movie Review: Ad Astra

Movie Review: Ad Astra

Dylan Cabral, Writer

Ad Astra is an action and sci-fi movie about Astronaut Roy McBride making it his priority to find the truth about his father who has been presumed dead for years. His father was the most decorated astronaut who went on a mission called the Lima Project and has not returned for the past 16 years.

Mysterious power surges have been occuring on Earth and McBride thinks his dad is behind it. After nearly dying to a power surge during an astronaut mission, McBride decides to pursue his father and what he is thinking, and to find out whether he is a decorated astronaut with good intentions or a selfish person who decided to isolate himself from everyone he loved.

In my opinion, this movie was average and I’d give it a 2.5/5 star review. This is because this film lacks many aspects essential to a good movie such as action, sound effects, dialogue, and a unique plot. The vast majority of the action happen towards the beginning of the movie and is almost irrelevant to the main plot. The ending was anticlimactic and didn’t leave the audience content. The things that were good was acting and how immersed in space the movie made you feel. It also had some parts of suspense. If you’re interested in suspenseful movies about space travel, then this movie is suggested for you.
