“I feel like the team performance was good. We had a lot of mistakes, but we stood 10 toes down and managed to come out with the win,”

— Kamo'i Latu

This month, the Saint Louis Crusaders varsity football team faced off against the Punahou Buff ‘n Blue. This game hosted the hardest fight the crusaders had all season, ending off the game with a score of 25-19, with the crusaders being down 16-6 going into the half.  After the game, I interviewed Saint Louis’ Kamo’i Latu, the starting hard-hitting safety on the Crusader defense, about the teams performance and his thoughts on the game.

“I feel like the team performance was good. We had a lot of mistakes, but we stood 10 toes down and managed to come out with the win,” said Latu. “One positive was that everyone kept their heads up. We were losing going into the half but everyone’s energy and mindsets were still the same. One negative was we didn’t play as a whole”

Furthermore, I asked him what the team plans to work on for the games ahead, and he replied, “We’re gonna work on being more sound, and we’re gonna work on our communication. Before the game I feel like the team just wasn’t together as a whole. I feel like we need to lock in and stop doing individual things.”

Since this was the first time this season the Crusaders were down going into the half, I asked him what he was feeling having to come from behind and grind it out for the win. He replied “In all honesty it didn’t feel like anything, because the same thing happened last year, but we didnt let them score as much as they did last year. Even when we were down I felt like the team mindset was still there.”
