A Recap of the 2019 Polynesian Bowl

A Recap of the 2019 Polynesian Bowl

The Polynesian Bowl is a premier high school football all-star game that features 100 of the top players in the nation. Team Makai (meaning water) beat team Mauka (meaning mountain) 27-7. The Polynesian Football Hall of Fame has sponsored this showcase game for the past 3 years- along with Ridell, Nike, and many other corporations. Haloti Ngata, defensive end for the Philadelphia Eagles and Juju Smith-Schuster, wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers were named as honorary team captains. The Polynesian Football Hall of Fame honors Polynesia’s greatest players, coaches, and contributors in this once in a lifetime bowl game.

The Polynesian Bowl is more than just a game, but there are also various activities that span over a week. On the first day, the players checked in at the Princess Kaiulani Sheraton hotel from noon to 6. After check-in, players enjoyed dinner, where the team captains were introduced and selected teams. The players then went to their rooms- after a few interviews – and rested up for a full week of activities and hard practices. Throughout the week the group of players visited places such as Shriners hospital, Dave & Busters, and Polynesian Cultural Center. At each stop, they enjoyed their time and also gave back to the community. After all the fun and games, the two teams went face-to-face with each other at the Aloha Stadium where team Makai was too much for team Mauka to handle.

The Polynesian Bowl is where the world’s top high school football players gather to celebrate culture and play the game they love. The Polynesian Bowl is held annually during the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Week. Some of the NFL Ambassadors include Michael Bennett, DeForest Buckner, Marcus Mariota, Haloti Ngata, Danny Shelton, JuJu Smith-Schuster and Ronnie Stanley.
