On March 5,  Saint Louis faced off Maryknoll for their season opener. The Crusaders come back from a rough season last year, which they did not make states. This game was to tell, how they would do this year.

Maryknoll struck first in the first inning, making the score 1-0. Cole Kashimoto answered back with a stroke to the left-center-field gap, to bring in two runs for a 2-1 lead. As the game went on, Maryknoll scored 4 more runs to make it 5-2 in the last inning. The Crusaders were making too many errors. At the top of the 7th, the Crusaders rallied to tie the game at 5. Highlighted by Austin Teixeira’s RBI single through the left side of the infield. In extra innings, Noah Tory chopped one to left field to bring in the game-winning run. Caleb Lomavita followed with another single to add an insurance run as JT Navyac closed out the game on the mound to secure the 7-5 win.

This was a great season opener for the Crusader baseball team. They still have a lot to work on. Let’s hope Coach Gustman can lead this team to a state championship this year.
